Hola everyone!
Word of the day: Rain
Once again, today has been packed full of adventure. We are all filled with many different emotions. We are experiencing the highs and lows of living in Honduras.
Here is a snap shot of all that we've done today:
To start the day, we had team devotions. Then, the missionaries brought us breakfast.
From there, we loaded the truck with wood for our building project and headed up more into the mountains. There was a lot more wood than expected so we took two loads. Once we got up the mountain, we ran into our first problem: getting a truck full of sand through the school gate to where we were building the playground. It was so heavy, it had been raining, and there were tons of pot holes. The truck was stuck in about 12 inches of mud. After about an hour of hard work, a few local Hondurans got the truck into the area to dump the sand. Carmen and Andy informed us that the sand was already supposed to be leveled and ready to go for us. Instead, we spent all of the time that we had to build the playground on shoveling and leveling the sand. The Honduran kids were awesome and came to help us once school was let out. That was a lot of fun to see. This is when the rain started to move in. While about half of the team was working on the sand, the other half started a soccer game with about 30-40 of the kids. It was a big muddy mess, but it was very fun.
Next, we went to another school in San Francisco for lunch and to do the VBS. We had so many kids!
Half way through the VBS, the rain started coming down. We all huddled into the little school. Older kids were in one room and younger kids were in the other. The rain was so loud and the kids were so loud! It was like a Tsunami hit. After about 10 minutes the kids got very antsy and wild. There was 100 jr. high kids packed into one small room.
It took about an hour for the rain to settle down enough for the kids to go home.
One of the things that was so hard for us was that we delayed the kids from getting home and some of them were very sad about it. We didn't understand why at first, but realized that many of the kids get physically abused at home if they get there late. Some of the kids were far enough away that we drove them and since there were so many kids, we had to take many trips. So it took about another hour and a half on top of the delay with the rain to get all the kids home. Many of the older kids sent their siblings home before so that they would not get in trouble.
God gave us this verse to pray over these kids:
"For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the need from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight." - Psalm 72:12-14
Please continue to pray for us as a group. We are very tired, but are enjoying serving. Pray also for the missionaries, that we would be a blessing to them and they would be encouraged.
Sorry for no pictures, the wifi isn't working to well.
I'm guessing that nothing over there comes easy, but with these things especially you can be comforted in knowing that God is working BECAUSE things aren't going as planned. Your doing your job and He is doing His. Phil. 2:13-16
ReplyDeleteFor it is God who works in you to Will and to act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation in which you shine like stars in the universe, as you hold out the word of life." Continue to be diligent and kick Satan in the pants every day you are there!
Thank you!
DeletePraying each day you are there when the rains come down you will be drenched in God's grace and amazed at his goodness. And when the sun is shining, you will be reminded of the warmth of his love and peace. Love you Gibson family.
